The role

Our Engineering & Baggage Operations Team is responsible for the asset engineering and baggage maintenance across Manchester Airport. From airfield lighting and associated control systems, baggage systems (controls and automation), security and screening equipment (CT/ETD), lifts, auto walks, escalators and jetway’s, our teams cover not only a large geographical area, but a significant range of assets which underpin the guest experience.

Reporting to the Baggage Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maximising asset availability by determining root cause analysis of asset failures. Responsible for the development of plans to improve asset availability, you will work in conjunction with a team of engineers in our Engineering and Baggage Operations Team. Together the aim is to improve the overall guest experience at Manchester Airport. Some of your duties will include:

  • Assess and evaluate asset failures, maintenance plans and asset availability
  • Produce and issue root cause analysis reports and provide insights on performance
  • Propose corrective action plans to enhance performance and productivity
  • Interact with internal and external customers at all levels on technical issues
  • Create plans and document change activities for proposal and sign off
  • Lead on industry best practice through continuous research on improvements in maintenance techniques
  • Assist in the development, design, and implementation of future maintenance models for any new facilities
  • Support leadership by producing presentations and business case proposals

What will make you successful in the role?

You will ideally be a proven, reliability engineer with a track record of supporting change programmes and projects as part of continuous improvement, with experience of working within a front-line operational engineering management environment. Your experience may include engineering management, mechanical/electrical systems design, construction and/or maintenance, or a closely related field where you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Engineering qualification (preferred Degree/HNC) is essential
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate data to make recommendations based on findings
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to view operations through a holistic lens
  • Ability to effectively manage key stakeholders at all levels – internally and externally
  • Sound organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Influencing and negotiating skills to motivate multidisciplinary networks to work towards a common goal
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present high level and logical business cases
