Job summary

The post-holder is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support tothe Vascular Surgery service. The post-holder will be required to follow policies and procedures andcommunicate effectively as appropriate

 

Main duties of the job

. Duties will include using the Trust’s new Electronic Patient Record System Hive, uploading patientregistrations and referrals, dealing with telephone queries, letters, emails and Hive chat, the typingof clinic letters, and providing ad hoc support to Medical Secretaries on a daily basis.2. Liaising with Consultants, clinical teams and other hospitals where required.3. The post-holder would be expected to demonstrate office procedures to inexperienced staff.4. The post-holder would be expected to commit to on-the-job learning, where necessary i.e.expansion of medical terminology knowledge, relevant policies, and procedures.5. To ensure variety of role, you will also be involved in managing/booking Hot-clinic appointments6. Dealing with telephone enquiries, promptly and communicating accordingly thereafter.7. Dealing with all patients and their relatives/carers in a caring and professional manner, providingadmission/appointment information where appropriate.8. Undertaking routine clerical duties and any other tasks relevant to the role as requested as andwhen required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • General education to GCSE standard including English & maths

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience of working to deadlines
  • At least two years previous secretarial experience and/or previous NHS experience

Desirable

  • . Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks
  • Knowledge of a range of office procedures and Microsoft Office packages

Desirable

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
