Do you have deep SAP ECC and SRM technical knowledge and a passion for optimising complex systems? Are you ready to play a crucial role in delivering high-quality internal SAP support for a mission-led organisation that serves 2.7 million people?

At Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), we’re looking for an SAP Technical Specialist to join our Information Systems team and provide expert-level technical guidance, system support, and configuration management across our SAP landscape.

Who we are

We are at the start of unprecedented investment and growth. If you want to make a real difference to real people throughout our great city, you’ll love it at Transport for Greater Manchester. TfGM oversees public transport and travel across the ten district areas of Greater Manchester, serving more than 2.7million people, and supports the delivery of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s transport priorities, as well as the Mayor’s transport manifesto commitments.

Your role

As the internal technical lead for SAP, you’ll work at the heart of a dynamic team, ensuring our SAP systems deliver maximum performance and user satisfaction. You’ll be the primary contact for advanced troubleshooting, responsible for liaising with internal departments and our external SAP partners to resolve incidents, implement upgrades, and continuously improve functionality.

You’ll also play a key role in the wider strategic direction of our ERP platforms, contributing technical expertise to the evaluation and planning of future system replacements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the go-to technical expert for SAP ECC and SRM systems across modules such as HR, ESS, MSS, Payroll, Projects, FICO and Procurement.
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex incidents, testing fixes in the QAS environment, and overseeing configuration changes.
  • Working closely with users and business leads to optimise SAP functionality, improve reporting, and provide user-friendly guidance.
  • Managing technical audits, licensing requirements, and supporting compliance activities.
  • Developing and delivering high-quality training materials and onboarding resources.
  • Supporting organisational readiness for future ERP system transitions.

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and experienced SAP professional who combines hands-on technical expertise with outstanding communication skills.

Essential experience:

  • Experience in a senior SAP technical analyst role.
  • Strong configuration and support knowledge across core SAP modules.
  • Deep understanding of cross-module integration and dependencies.
  • Experience developing documentation, training content, and test scripts.
  • Proven experience with SAP role and authorisation management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify technical language for non-technical audiences.

Desirable:

  • Experience in local government or public sector organisations.
  • Exposure to IDOC/EDI technologies and SAP training delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in IT or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant SAP certifications highly desirable.
  • ITIL experience is also required.

What we can offer you

This is a fixed term role for 24 months with a salary of £47,539 – £52,886 per annum. Salary will be based upon skills and experience.
