JOB BAND: C Journalist
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time
DEPARTMENT: BBC Radio Manchester Sport
LOCATION: Media City Salford
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,300-£35,150 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join BBC Radio Manchester, covering one of the UK’s most exciting sport patches. From Premier League football to Super League rugby and major events like the Manchester Marathon, you’ll help create standout sport content across radio and digital platforms. Based at Media City, alongside BBC Sport and Radio 5 Live, this role offers the chance to work in a vibrant newsroom, producing engaging, high-impact coverage that reflects Greater Manchester’s rich sporting landscape.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Producing sport output on BBC Radio Manchester that makes a big impact.
Our breakfast Sport bulletins are designed to showcase our Sport output and make a huge impact in the Joe McGrath Breakfast Show.
As a commentator at BBC Radio Manchester you’ll travel up and down the country to bring our listeners the very best live commentary or match reports. We regularly deliver football (including women’s game) rugby league and rugby union, but also are looking for opportunities to cover more sports that our audience is passionate about.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Experience in sport broadcasting at a comparable level to BBC Radio Manchester who can act as a producer, presenter, commentator, reporter and bulletin reader.
- A great broadcast voice
- Resilience and an ability to work independently and as part of the team
- Creativity to bring and champion the best and biggest ideas for content
- An attention to detail and an ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience commentating on Premier League Football
- Radio Production experience
- If you’ve previously won any industry awards for your work
- If you’ve created your own successful blog, podcast, fan media content or social channels
