Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is the local government body responsible for delivering Greater Manchester’s transport strategy and commitments.
We’re looking for an Assistant ITS Engineer to join our Highways team on a 12 month fixedterm contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of Greater Manchester’s Intelligent Transport Systems, helping us keep the network moving and supporting the delivery of new roadside assets and digital capabilities. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and developing the systems that underpin traffic management across the region, working with suppliers, contractors and internal teams to ensure our ITS assets remain safe, reliable and futureready.
Your Role
As an Assistant ITS Engineer, you’ll support the operation, maintenance and development of our ITS and UTC systems. You’ll work closely with suppliers and contractors to ensure equipment is performing effectively, contribute to the delivery of new ITS schemes, and provide technical insight to help us manage the network efficiently. You’ll analyse data, support fault resolution, and help shape the next generation of digital traffic management tools across Greater Manchester. This is a handson, varied role with real impact on daytoday network performance.

You’ll be joining the Highways Intelligent Transport Systems team, part of the wider Highways directorate responsible for keeping Greater Manchester’s roads safe, efficient and wellmanaged. Our work directly supports millions of journeys each week and plays a vital role in improving reliability, reducing congestion and enabling sustainable travel choices. This role offers the chance to contribute to meaningful public outcomes while developing specialist skills in a growing and innovative field.
