About the job

At Auto Trader, we love data, and believe decisions are best made when data is involved. We’re looking for a Business Insight Analyst to join our Finance Systems and BI team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The team are responsible for developing insightful reporting and analysis to enable data-driven business decisions.

As a Business Insight Analyst, you will be responsible for analysing and reviewing big data models and translating this into feature-rich business insight capabilities, utilising the latest tools and techniques available on our data platform.

The role primarily involves managing and maintaining the Looker reporting suite, handling support requests, and assisting with data queries and analysis. The role will focus on providing first-line support for Looker development, maintenance, and queries. You’ll manage a support channel, create and manage tickets in Jira, and handle queries. Demonstrating your curiosity will help us to spot trends or outliers in data.

You’ll also be part of our journey to improve our data-driven decision-making through the development of data packages, reports, and visualisation dashboards – adding these to our BI suite. Providing training and guidance to our finance colleagues in understanding existing reporting and enable them to self-serve autonomous analysis will also form part of this role. You will establish yourself as the subject matter authority in business intelligence.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in enterprise level BI data platforms, SQL language and working with data warehouse relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server
  • A real passion for data and collaboration, and a commitment to add value in the use of data analytics for our Finance tribe
  • Experience in partnering with business teams to develop metrics and related insights
  • Experience of creating and optimising a suite of reports or dashboards for stakeholders to drive business, team or product performance
  • Self-driven and able to use a combination of data, analysis, knowledge sharing and business acumen to identify and lead new opportunities
  • You understand product strategy and business goals and can present your insights in a concise and effective manner; confidently communicating insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in Google BigQuery, Looker, DBT, GitHub, Tableau and Qlik or similar BI visualisation tools would be advantageous, but not essential.

At Auto Trader, we believe that every candidate brings a unique blend of talents. If you find yourself ticking some, but not all, of the requirement boxes, we’d still love to hear from you.

Benefits and more

We’re offering a salary of £30,000-£45,000, and a flexible benefits package to support your health and well-being. Enjoy 28 days of annual leave, in addition to bank holidays and half-day closures on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Our Aviva pension scheme offers employer contributions ranging from 5% to 7%. We also provide Bupa Healthcare enhanced medical coverage to all employees, which includes support for assisted fertility, gender dysphoria, menopause, and period care plans.

But that’s not all. We offer enhanced parental leave, a car salary sacrifice scheme, share-save options, and much more. When you join us, you’ll also become an owner of Auto Trader, receiving an additional 10% of your salary in shares each year. This allows you to share in the value you help create, and you’ll also have the chance to increase your ownership through our Save As You Earn scheme.

Our hybrid model, Connected Working, combines the best of both worlds – office and home working. With Connected Working, you’ll have two fixed weekly office days dedicated to team collaboration. In addition to your fixed office days, we expect you to be in more than you’re out. You can choose the specific days that suit your work requirements, home commitments, and team needs.
