About the job

We’re looking for a Senior Mac Engineer to join our in-house Support Services team (Connect IT) and take our expertise in macOS to the next level.

In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in shaping and scaling our enterprise macOS environment, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance of Mac devices across the business. With a variety of exciting projects and the prospect of relocating to a brand-new office early next year, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact as we continue our modern workplace transformation.

You don’t need to be a car enthusiast to work at Autotrader, but a strong passion for Apple technology, deep expertise in Jamf Pro, and delivering excellent IT support are essential. Experience managing large Mac estates (1,000+ devices) and strong knowledge of Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Defender, and Office 365 will set you up for success.

Every day will bring new challenges, from troubleshooting complex Mac issues to deploying and managing devices using Jamf and Intune. With curiosity, technical expertise, and a proactive mindset, you will help shape the Mac user experience for our colleagues, driving automation and self-service capabilities through scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and Terraform.

You will work closely with internal teams to support the recent migration to Mac devices, lead the integration of Apple technologies into our corporate environment, and align with broader IT strategies. You’ll also contribute to the governance, testing, and deployment of Mac infrastructure solutions, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.

Where immediate fixes aren’t possible, you will take ownership, collaborating with colleagues to diagnose root causes and implement long-term solutions, while innovating and challenging conventional enterprise IT approaches.

This role goes beyond reactive support. You will drive initiatives such as endpoint monitoring, automation, and knowledge sharing to reduce downtime and enhance productivity, and play a key part in incident management and coding configuration.

To help our business thrive, you will stay ahead of Mac hardware and software developments, testing and integrating new releases, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of our modern workplace.

It’s a hybrid role, with 3 days spent in the office and 2 days working from home.

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience managing and supporting large Mac estates in a corporate environment
• Strong expertise with Jamf Pro and Mac device management tools
• Proficiency in Apple scripting, including Bash, to customise and automate Mac workflows
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex macOS issues efficiently and proactively
• Experience working with Endpoint monitoring and self-remediation solutions is highly desirable
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
• Strong project management skills with the ability to lead initiatives independently
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to share technical knowledge and mentor junior team members
• Passionate about delivering a seamless and secure Mac user experience across the business
• Proactive, solution-driven mindset with a keen interest in emerging Mac technologies and security enhancements

As the Mac Engineer, you will be a key technical expert and advocate for macOS within Autotrader, helping shape the future of our workplace technology and supporting colleagues to get the best from their devices. Your engaging communication style and collaborative approach will be essential in building strong relationships across teams. 

Benefits

We’re offering a salary of £40,000 – £60,000, plus an additional 10% of your salary awarded to you in shares each year. These awarded shares will become yours in yearly instalments over the next three years, and you can choose to either sell them or keep them as shares.

You’ll have 28 days holiday per year, and that’s in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
