The Content Assistant provides logistical and co-ordination support to our teams on several productions, ensuring delivery on time and in budget. This role is to work with the BBC Audio North team in Salford. You will join a team working across a variety of output, reporting to an Editor or Producer.

In the first instance, this role will sit within our Culture, Arts and Music team which produce the flagship Radio 4 entertainment strand Loose Ends and the poetry programme The Verb.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the running of a team that produces daily live and pre-recorded content across BBC Sounds, national radio networks and the BBC World Service.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC Audio North is the single biggest supplier of BBC radio programmes and podcasts made outside of London. We love audio and make lots of it – a rich mix of content spanning multiple genres including consumer, investigations, documentaries, pop music, religion and arts for Radio 1, 2, 4, 6 Music plus the World Service and BBC Sounds.

Content Assistants could be scheduled onto any of the output across Audio North, however, for your first placement we expect you’ll be scheduled onto Radio 4’s flagship series Loose Ends, a fast-paced short-turnaround entertainment title, as well as across a portfolio of other work. You will be supporting the Producer and Assistant Producer with show production, research and administration tasks. If you’re obsessed with culture – especially radio, comedy and music and social media – then we are interested in hearing from you.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Provide administrative and creative support to help deliver high-quality content.
  • Editorial tasks include editing audio/video/images, managing web content and basic research.
  • Logistical tasks such as setting up studios and recordings, making payments and post-production paperwork.
  • Act as a key liaison between production teams, contributors, and audiences.
  • Gain hands-on experience in the full content production process, with opportunities for career progression.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • You will need proven experience of working in Radio; with experience of working on pre-recorded and/or live programmes.
  • Confident using digital tools and excited by new tech and social media trends.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, especially with written content and visuals.
  • You will also need to be a good team player with great communication skills, able to work under pressure and take the initiative.
  • You will also need strong planning and organising skills and ability to work across several projects simultaneously.

This is a unique chance to work on a wide range of output, including with leading voices in arts culture. If you’re interested in building a career in radio content production we’d love to hear from you.

Note: This role may require early morning and weekend working. It is based in MediaCity, Salford but travel and location work may be necessary.  Content Assistants, as members of BBC Audio North can be expected to be scheduled on programmes across the department according to business need.  The expectation is that you will be working in the Salford office a minimum of 3 days per week.
