CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term / Attachment, Full-time (6 months) – parental leave cover.
DEPARTMENT: Consumer Team, BBC Audio North
LOCATION: MediaCityUK, Salford
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £32,900 – £43,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Radio 4’s Consumer Team is looking for talented Content Producers to create compelling content across radio, podcast, and digital platforms.
Airing live on BBC Radio 4, and on BBC Sounds, our programmes and podcasts offer real voices and perspectives through a rich mix of topical conversations – all centred on people’s experiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Produce individual items, series, or entire programmes from concept to broadcast.
- Output the live programme with editorial support.
- Generate and pitch original ideas for radio and digital platforms.
- Create engaging digital content for social media and BBC Sounds.
- Collaborate with presenters, editors, and contributors to deliver high-quality output.
- React swiftly and editorially to breaking news and topical events.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Demonstrate strong journalistic skills, with the ability to write clearly and simplify complex topics.
- Show sound editorial judgement and confidence in decision-making, particularly under live broadcast pressure.
- Experience working on live radio or in a studio environment, familiarity with BBC editorial guidelines and production systems, with the ability to embrace new technologies and tools to enhance storytelling and production.
- Have experience producing standout radio, social, and digital content that makes an impact both inside and outside the BBC and broadens reach, bringing a wealth of creative ideas and the ability to turn them into engaging, compelling content.
- Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and react positively to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
