Salary Range: £63,300 – £84,367 per annum

Location: London or Salford- 1 day per week from the office

We are currently looking for talented Software Engineering Team Leads across our teams here at the BBC. You will be a current or aspiring technology leader who has a passion for creating world class engineering teams and developing, guiding and mentoring people. You will be working in partnership with the other supportive roles in the team, to deliver best in class product experiences, drive forward our technologies and support your engineers. You will be supported by the senior colleagues within your area to enable you to build and develop your team and the people within it.
The Elections team creates dedicated results pages for key election events across the UK and US, working closely with our partners in editorial and the wide. This is an important part of our responsibility as a public service outlet to provide accurate information on our democratic processes, accessible to all.
Main Responsibilities
The role of a Software Engineering Team Lead is a hybrid role; mixing expert technical knowledge with supporting your team and managing your engineers day to day and their careers.
The focus of the role includes:
- People: Recruit, mentor, coach and manage staff, assuring the quality of their work and professional development.
- Environment: Create the environment in which people can be their best. This will involve working with department leadership to create a positive and diverse working culture and working with peers to create continuity and alignment across the teams.
- Technical Expertise: Work across the technical community to improve our software, share knowledge and improve processes / practices when developing software.

- Track record of growing engineers with a focus on mentoring, coaching and development
- Experience of designing, writing and supporting robust, large-scale applications in a fast-changing environment with rapid release cycles
- Experience of working with multiple technical and non-technical stakeholders in a complex, agile, matrix environment
- Ability to communicate complex technology solutions in a clear and coherent way to different audiences
- Skilled in dealing with multiple product and technical priorities with a focus on practical and pragmatic ways forward
- Experience working on high capacity, high traffic or high availability websites
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly with event-driven architectures and complex data structures
