The role

Manchester Airport is going through a very exciting period of transformation as part of its £1.3 billion investment programme; MAN-TP. Phase Two of this once in a generation programme includes the renovation of Terminal 2, the construction of a new Pier, and the modernisation of our baggage, airfield, and landside facilities to improve the experience for colleagues and customers. In addition, we have various social value goals around employability, volunteering, and sustainability to maximise the investment benefits in the local region and its people.

As the Communications Officer, you will play a key role in delivering engaging and effective communications to the airport community about the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme (MAN-TP) and other operational activities. You will work closely with the Head of Stakeholder Communications to implement the communication and engagement strategies for MAN-TP, ensuring they are aligned with the wider business objectives and social value goals. You will also build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as airlines, retailers, ground handlers and other on-site businesses, understanding their communication needs and expectations.

Your main responsibilities will also include:

  • Creating and distributing regular communications to the airport community via various channels, such as e-newsletters, videos, app updates, events, marketing materials and website content.
  • Coming up with creative ways to share the MAN-TP story with different audiences, showcasing the positive impacts and milestones of the programme.
  • Producing high quality and creative content for different channels and working with the wider Communications function to maximise opportunities and ensure consistency.
  • Communicating complex operational messages in a clear and understandable way and keeping partners informed about any disruption happening across the site.
  • Organising and supporting events and briefings across the site or online.
  • Assisting the Head of Stakeholder Communications with key meetings, such as a monthly meeting for the airport community.

What will make you successful in the role?

To succeed in this role, you need to have a strong background and interest in communications. You may have a degree in a relevant field, or you may have gained equivalent skills and experience through your work history.

You will be confident in delivering communications activities and campaigns and be able to write engaging and clear content for various audiences and channels. You should also be creative, proactive, and collaborative, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and build good relationships with stakeholders.

Ideally, you would have some knowledge of the airport environment or large infrastructure projects, as well as some design or video editing skills, but these are not essential.
