Location: Manchester
Salary: Competitive
Job Type: Full-time
Permanent Role

Are you passionate about making workplaces safer and more sustainable? Want to make a real difference in a role that impacts thousands of colleagues, customers and communities every day?

At Stagecoach, we’re more than just a transport company. We’re a vital part of daily life in the UK. For over 40 years, we’ve been connecting people, powering local economies, and helping build better places to live and work. Now we’re looking for a Health & Safety Officer to join our Manchester team and help lead our safety journey into the future.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape how we embed a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across our depots, all while supporting our vision of Driving Net Zero.

What will you be doing?

As our Health & Safety Officer, you’ll be the go-to expert for all things safety across our Manchester depots. Working closely with the Engineering Director and Health & Safety Manager, you will:

  • Lead safety initiatives and ensure Group H&S policies are consistently applied across depots
  • Carry out safety audits and follow up on actions, legislation updates, and policy changes
  • Support the Manchester business to maintain their ISO 45001 accreditation
  • Collaborate with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) on safety improvement programmes
  • Attend forums and committees to share knowledge and best practices with other operators
  • Deliver in-house safety training and support the delivery of our 5-Year Safety Plan
  • Investigate incidents and develop Safety Alerts to improve awareness and prevent reoccurrence
  • Monitor depot KPIs and identify opportunities for safety improvement
  • Be a visible presence across our operations, engaging with local teams to champion safe working practices

What do you need to apply?

We’re looking for someone who brings experience, passion and a proactive mindset to the role. You’ll need:

  • A NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
  • Strong knowledge of UK safety legislation and auditing practices
  • Experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment (ideally transport or similar)
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between depots
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and organisational abilities
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.)

It’s a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience working on multiple projects or across multiple sites
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 and/or sustainability frameworks
  • A calm, methodical and approachable personality

Why choose Stagecoach?

  • Free bus and tram travel for you and a companion
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Employee discounts on shopping, cinema, travel and more
  • Supportive Employee Assistance Programme for your wellbeing
  • A collaborative, inclusive working environment
  • Be part of a business committed to safety, sustainability, and positive change
