Connecting Job Seekers and Employers at The Trafford Centre
Last week we had the pleasure of being able to interact with both businesses and applicants at The Manchester Job Show that took place in The Orient at the Trafford Centre. It was great to see a free event like this where applicants could interact directly with employers, Hiring Managers and HR representatives.
In-Person Interaction with Decision Makers
The fact that decision makers were actively onsite at the event to provide applicants with guidance and to hold interviews in person the same day was refreshing to see. I think this knowledge is what drove so many potential candidates out to the event and made it stand out compared to most job fairs. This has definitely become a trend post covid and we discussed this with individuals seeking work both commuting to and at the event. It leaves a great impression when businesses make an effort and have hiring processes that aren’t just digital CV readers.
Diverse Range of Employers and Opportunities
We had a great time interacting with the selection of employers at the event and the diversity in fields and opportunity was really refreshing. We had the opportunity to speak to and gain feedback on JIM itself from many employers such as Express Solicitors, Holden Knight Healthcare LTD, Vision Express and many more. We also discussed their hiring processes and how they view, screen and interview applicants as well as what has worked for them in this post covid jobs boom it looks like we are currently in.
Plenty of Entry-Level and Apprentice Roles
Many of the employers had some great opportunities for entry level and apprentice roles with a lot of the larger rooted businesses providing positions with extensive training programs with very little requirements to hold applicants back.
Value of Face-to-Face Meetings
It was really enlightening to see so many people actively looking and helping to find work. As a digital jobs board and with nearly all of job applications being made online, we take for granted the opportunity to have face to face meetings between applicants and employers as it’s not the same interviewing or screening digitally over Zoom or Skype. Many of the employers agreed with this sentiment as their focus was on the applicant’s potential, attitude and motivation rather than meeting expectations such as prior work experience and or qualifications.
Massive Turnout and Diverse Sectors
The JIM team believes this event was a huge hit with a massive turnout of applicants, a variety of employers from healthcare, hospitality, transport, military, finance, law sectors and more with a great selection of entry level roles and even some seminars/presentations from the employers themselves to round out the day.
We hope to attend many more local jobs fairs promoting businesses and the economic growth of Greater Manchester.
