About the Role

Campus Support and Security Officers are often the first point of contact for staff, students and visitors requiring assistance. The role combines customer service, welfare support and frontline security responsibilities, ensuring the safety of people and the security of University buildings and assets.

Working as part of a 24/7 operational team, responsibilities include:

  • Responding to security and welfare incidents across campus
  • Conducting foot and vehicle patrols
  • Monitoring CCTV and control room systems
  • Supporting emergency response and evacuations
  • Liaising with Greater Manchester Police and other emergency services
  • Producing accurate incident reports
  • Providing a welcoming and professional service to our diverse University community.

  • Experience and professional skills relevant to a customer‑facing security, safety or support environment
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to produce clear written reports
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to support a diverse range of people
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative and sound judgement
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant security qualifications, including CCTV Public Space Surveillance certification or equivalent
  • First Aid at Work qualification
  • Knowledge of higher education environments and related security challenges

Candidates who are successfully shortlisted will be invited to attend an Assessment Day on Thursday 3 September 2026, designed to reflect the operational nature of the position. Please note that the Assessment Day forms a key part of the selection process, and candidates should ensure they are available to attend on 3 September 2026 before submitting an application.

The assessment process will include:

  • Campus Tour
  • Written and practical assessments
  • A group session where you can ask any questions you may have about the role or the University.

This approach allows us to assess how candidates respond in practice, ensuring we appoint individuals who can operate effectively in a live environment.

Successful candidates will then progress to a final interview, which will take place during the week commencing 7 September 2026.
