When it comes to appliances and electricals, we’ve got the lot. Washing machines? Yep. TVs? Check. Laptops? Absolutely. Everything except doorbells (just kidding, we’ve got those too).

About The Role

At AO, we’re all about using data to make smarter decisions and create brilliant customer experiences – and that’s where you come in. As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we build, move and use data across the business. You’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking tech team, designing scalable solutions that power everything from analytics to innovation. If you love solving complex problems, enjoy working with modern cloud tech, and want to make a real impact, this could be the perfect next step.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing

You’ll be designing and building robust data pipelines that keep our data flowing smoothly and reliably, using AWS tools like Redshift, Glue, Spectrum and Lambda. Working closely with teams across AO, you’ll turn business needs into practical, scalable solutions that help unlock the value of our data. You’ll continuously improve performance, reliability and cost-efficiency across our data systems, while making sure everything is secure and compliant. From setting up automated deployments using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, to troubleshooting issues and documenting your work, you’ll help keep things running seamlessly. You’ll also share your knowledge with others in the team, helping to coach and support colleagues as we grow.

A Few Things About You

  • Solid experience in data engineering, building and maintaining data pipelines
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS services like Redshift, Glue, Spectrum and Lambda
  • Confidence working with Python and TSQL
  • A good understanding of data modelling, ETL processes and data warehousing
  • Experience (or exposure to) Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices
  • A natural problem solver who enjoys improving and optimising the way things work
  • Comfortable collaborating with different teams and bringing ideas to life together
  • Someone who’s keen to share knowledge and support others’ development
  • Bonus points for experience with data visualisation tools like Tableau or Power BI

A Bit About Us

We’re big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They’re our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.

But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.

We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s about more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.
