Job Overview

About The Role

We’re on an exciting journey here at AO – with strong growth behind us and even bigger plans ahead, we’re growing our Data team and looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join us. This role sits right at the heart of how we power our platform, helping to build and maintain the systems that keep our data flowing, accessible, and ready to drive brilliant customer experiences.

From supporting our website to enabling advanced analytics and AI, you’ll play a key part in shaping how data brings AO to life. You’ll be joining a collaborative and forward-thinking team that’s evolving into areas like Machine Learning and AI – so it’s a great time to get involved and make a real impact.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing

You’ll be hands-on with our data platforms day in, day out – working across SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS and Azure to build, improve and maintain our cloud-based infrastructure. Whether you’re creating databases, coding with Terraform, SQL or Python, or helping deliver key business projects, your work will keep things running smoothly and efficiently behind the scenes.

You’ll collaborate closely with teams across Data Engineering, Data Science and Analytics, forming cross-functional partnerships to deliver meaningful change. It’s a fast-paced environment where you’ll be solving problems, improving resilience and performance, and contributing to projects that genuinely move the business forward.

A Few Things About You

  • You enjoy working with data platforms and take pride in building reliable, high-performing systems
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including administration, performance tuning and high availability
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure (or both!)
  • Comfortable coding with tools like SQL, Python or Terraform
  • Understanding of data warehousing and ETL tools such as Snowflake or Airflow
  • Experience working with CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • You’ve worked in a fast-paced, live environment and understand what it takes to support 24/7 systems
  • Curious and innovative – you’re always looking for better ways to do things
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating across different specialisms
  • Passionate about keeping up with new technologies and bringing fresh ideas to the table

A Bit About Us

We’re big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They’re our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.

But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.

We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s about more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.

Our Benefits

Our benefits are designed to cover the moments that matter to AOers. From health and wellness to giving back – you’ll be rewarded inside and outside of work.
