Purpose Of The Role
BBC Sport is seeking an Editorial Executive, Short-Form Video Curation to lead the evolution of our digital platforms. This role will define the editorial vision and strategy for a video-first experience, ensuring BBC Sport remains relevant, distinctive and trusted as audience behaviours shift.
Operating at the intersection of editorial and product, you will shape how audiences engage with sport through video – bringing together storytelling, curation and technology to create a compelling and coherent experience.
As a leader within BBC Sport, you will manage a specialist team, contribute to wider strategic direction and act as a deputy to the Executive Editor, playing a central role in the future of our digital proposition.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
BBC Sport reaches millions of people every week and plays a vital role in how audiences experience major sporting moments. As audience behaviour continues to shift towards video, particularly portrait format, this role offers the opportunity to shape how sport is experienced.
You will play a central role in one of BBC Sport’s most important strategic priorities – evolving our digital proposition to meet changing audience needs and defining what a modern, video-first sports experience looks like.
This is a rare opportunity to combine editorial leadership, strategy and product thinking at scale, with real influence over the future direction of BBC Sport and how millions of users engage with sport every day.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Set and deliver the editorial strategy for BBC Sport’s short-form video, establishing it as a core, video-first experience across the app, website, iPlayer, YouTube and social platforms
- Own the end-to-end editorial approach to curation, defining tone, prioritisation, sequencing and storytelling across a high-volume, real-time environment
- Lead the transition from manual editorial curation to a hybrid human-in-the-loop model, setting clear principles for how editorial judgement and algorithmic systems work together
- Act as the senior editorial partner to Product, Design, Data and Technology teams, shaping discovery, personalisation and the evolution of the SFV experience
- Use audience insight and performance data to drive decision-making, optimise content performance and maximise reach and engagement, particularly with younger audiences
- Ensure all curated content – including third-party and user-generated material – meets BBC Editorial Guidelines and maintains trust and quality
- Build strong relationships across BBC Sport and external partners, influencing alignment and delivery across a complex, multi-team environment
- Operate as a leader within BBC Sport, contributing to strategic direction and deputising for the Executive Editor as required
Your Skills and Experience
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Extensive experience in digital media and video platforms, with expertise in short-form video and content curation.
- Proven ability to define and deliver video-first strategies across multiple platforms and products
- Experience working with algorithmic or data-driven content systems, with strong editorial judgement in balancing personalisation and oversight
- Deep understanding of audience behaviour, particularly mobile-first and younger audiences
- Strong editorial decision-making skills in fast-paced, high-profile environments
- Experience leading and developing high-performing editorial teams
- Ability to work effectively with Product, Design and Technology teams to shape audience experiences
- Strong use of data and insight to inform strategy, measure impact and drive continuous improvement
- Thorough knowledge of editorial standards, compliance and the responsibilities of a trusted public service broadcaster
