PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £42,000 – £52,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

Newsround has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Journalist Reporter. This is a high-profile presenting role for a news programme that reaches more than 3.5 million children a week in schools. Newsround is committed to offering the best cross-platform and on-demand service for all UK children, providing a trusted environment which is enriching and enabling to our 7-12 aged audience. Our content seeks to entertain, inform and empower children, adding real value to their lives.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Present live news content in studio and on location for young audiences.
  • Research, script, and deliver engaging news stories, explaining complex topics in an accessible way.
  • Create and produce youth-focused news content across Newsround’s digital and broadcast platforms.
  • Generate and lead original journalism projects, with opportunities to contribute to wider BBC News output.
  • Edit and package content using Premiere Pro and Quantel, ensuring high editorial and technical standards.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Substantial experience in journalism (ideally three plus years), showing strong editorial judgement, storytelling, editing and scripting skills.
  • A dynamic presentation style that resonates with young audiences.
  • Experience in presenting for a youth audience and a good rapport with children.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the audience, what affects their lives and how they access news.
  • Experience in making youth content for different platforms including TV and social media.
  • Ability to break youth-focussed stories and present them across BBC News outlets when required.
