Job description

Job Title: Pastoral Officer
Area: Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Daily Rate: £600 – £750 per week (depending on experience)
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, Term time

About the School:

We’re working with a Rochdale school that puts people first – students, staff, and the wider community. If you want a role where you’ll genuinely change lives, keep reading!

About the Role:

As a Pastoral Officer, you’ll be at the heart of student life – offering the kind of consistent, trusted support that helps young people thrive academically and personally. From developing targeted action plans and monitoring attendance, to liaising with families and external agencies, your work will directly shape outcomes for students who need it most.

This is a dynamic, varied role that may require you to work flexibly across multiple sites, so we’re looking for someone who thrives on variety and brings the same energy and commitment wherever they are. You’ll be equally comfortable offering a listening ear to a student navigating a tough time as you are coordinating with teaching staff and senior leaders to put the right support in place.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in a pastoral, youth work, or student support role – ideally within a school or social care setting
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with confidence working across different sites and settings
  • A calm, empathetic approach with the ability to build rapport with young people facing emotional or social challenges
  • Strong communication skills across students, families, and professional colleagues
  • Organised and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage caseloads and keep accurate records
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and the wellbeing of children and young people

To Be Eligible You Must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate already on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one
  • Provide two professional references from child-related roles
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
