Job description

Secondary Teaching Assistant – Part-Time (3 Days)Area: Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026
Contract Type: Part-time, Permanent (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
Salary: £315 – £420 per week (dependent on experience and responsibilities)
Working Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

A specialist secondary provision, delivered in partnership with a mainstream academy, is looking for a part-time Teaching Assistant to support students with SEND who are integrated alongside mainstream peers. The role focuses on supporting access to a formal curriculum, including GCSE and entry-level accreditation, within smaller, specialist-led classes.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to secondary-age students
  • Support access to GCSE and entry-level curriculum content alongside mainstream peers
  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Work closely with teaching staff, families, and external agencies

What we’re looking for:

  • SEND experience, ideally within a setting integrating students with mainstream peers
  • Confidence supporting GCSE or entry-level curriculum delivery
  • A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to SEMH needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A relevant qualification in support, care, or education is desirable but not essential

To be eligible you must:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply)
  • Provide two professional references (child-related preferred)
