Digital Librarian

The Digital Librarian is responsible for the effective operation, development and integration of key digital systems supporting Library, Careers and Skills services. The role combines day‑to‑day systems support with service improvement. The role holder will have primary responsibility for the management, configuration and ongoing development of core library platforms, including:

• Library Management System (Ex Libris Alma)
• Resource Discovery Tool (Ex Libris Primo)
• Authentication (EZProxy, Open Athens LA)
• Reading List (Ex Libris Leganto)
• RFID hardware (Lapsafe and Advanova)

In addition, the Digital Librarian will provide technical guidance and problem‑solving support for a broader range of systems used within LCS, such as the Research Data Repository, Careers and Archive systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the support, integration, configuration, and ongoing development of library systems, ensuring effective operation and timely issue resolution.
• Collaborate with IT, system suppliers, and LCS colleagues to ensure effective support and development of LCS systems.
• Gather requirements, analyse user feedback and system analytics to improve interfaces, workflows, and processes.
• Contribute to the evaluation, selection, and monitoring of new and existing library technologies, including supplier and market developments.
• Lead system-related projects, represent the library externally, and deputise for the Digital Library Manager when required.

• Manage, configure, and develop core library platforms, including Ex Libris Alma, Primo, EZProxy, Open Athens LA, and Leganto.
• Provide technical support and guidance for a range of systems used within LCS, such as Research Data Repository and Careers systems.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across LCS, Digital IT, and system suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement new functionalities and workflows to enhance LCS services and processes.
• Proactively engage in service improvement initiatives, taking a leading role in driving innovation.
• Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in library systems and services.
• Ensure data security and privacy compliance for all digital systems.
• Document and communicate system changes and best practices to relevant teams.
• Provide training and support to library staff on the effective use of digital systems.

• A relevant degree in Library and Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a similar digital librarian or library systems management role.
• In-depth knowledge of library processes, services, and best practices.
• Strong understanding of library management systems, especially Ex Libris products.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance.
• Experience with RFID hardware and its integration into library systems is preferred.
• Proficiency in using library discovery tools and authentication systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with various stakeholders.
• A proactive and innovative approach to service improvement and system development.
