Job summary
Hours of duty will be 14:00-22:00, Monday to Friday, including bank holidays (37.5 hours per week).
The Domestic Services Team based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking for Domestic Assistants to be part of the relief pool working in all wards and departments across the Trust site, including Covid 19 areas and other infection areas.
We are looking for reliable and flexible individuals who have experience in cleaning and wish to develop whilst working with a team in a department that is embracing the revised National Cleaning Standards.
Main duties of the job
You will assist in maintaining a clean, hygienic and safe environment for patients and clinical staff, while assisting Nurses and other stakeholders, such as Bed Managers, with discharge/infection cleans as per local RAG poster, in line with the National Standards of Cleanliness.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a rapid response service to a high standard of cleanliness to all wards and departments, under the supervision of the domestic supervisor, including the safe use of mechanical and electrical equipment following appropriate training.

Job responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Deep Clean and Turn Around Cleans
Carry out deep cleans to incorporate the cleaning of all equipment, furniture, fittings and services within an area including walls, ceilings and floors, paintwork, tiles, cubicles, rails, etc., where locations may include contaminated items.
Cleaning to be carried out in line with a cleaning schedule or as requested, using the correct equipment according to the surface and the cleaning task and in line with requirements of Infection control policies, procedures and protocols.
Cleaning requirements to re-establish an area ready for use, following decanting of patients. And development work in clinical and general areas.
Cleaning to include equipment such as, beds, commodes, chairs, filing cupboards, lockers, cupboards, draws, as identified by supervisor and/or respective project manager.
Maintenance
Undertake routine basic maintenance and minor repair to hospital equipment or other site facilities work within the building discipline to re-establish an area ready for use, where repairs would not require the attention of a fully qualified craftsperson/technician.
Duties will include removal and re-hanging of curtains, ventilation grills, radiators and drainage system cleaning as well as snow and leaf clearing and waste duties.
Portering Activities
Movement of furniture and equipment
Removal and disposal of all clinical, non-clinical and confidential waste as directed and from area of work in line with waste policies which may include the cleanliness and tidiness of the waste disposal site.
Assisting nursing staff in movement of patients, particularly decanting of patients.
Requirements will include
Working at height using access equipment, in confined spaces, patient and radiation controlled areas and hostile environment.
Use of cleaning and basic maintenance and cleaning tools, materials and agents in a manner that minimises risk to the post holder and others; taking appropriate action when problems arise during cleaning. Equipment includes that used for manual and powered cleaning of the work area.
Materials and agents include disposable cloths, disinfectants and detergents. Manufacturers instructions and departmental COSHH risk assessments on dilutions will be adhered to at all times.
Storing of all equipment and materials in accordance with manufacturers instructions, ensuring equipment is safely stored and does not block any entry/exits or emergency equipment.Returning cleaning equipment and cleaning materials in good working order and condition respectively to the appropriate place after use.Keeping work areas as safe and free from hazards as is possible during work activities and reporting of any situations where risks arise that prevent work going ahead or continuing, restricting access to risk area until the area has been assessed as safe.
Wearing of personal protective clothing relevant to the activity (PPE)Set up hazard warnings when the cleaned surfaces are likely to cause risk to people in line with Trust guidance.Adhere to the Trust policy in regards to precautions and health and safety measures include hand washing/cleansing before during and after the activity to minimise or prevent infection and cross infection.In the course of your work bring to the attention of supervisor any situation which reasonably could be considered to represent a serious or immediate danger to any person or represent a shortcoming to health and safety (this should be preferably followed up in writing).
Utilise the facilities job recording system.
Obligation to attend training sessions to maintain and learn new techniques not necessarily held at work place and at times not rostered to work
Participate in staff performance reviews as and when required
Understand the inter-relationships between the various facilities functions.
Commitment to work with versatility and flexibility regarding cleaning, maintenance and portering activities.
