Proposed Salary Range: £45,000 – £58,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of The Role
This role has responsibility for leading a portfolio of YouTube activity for BBC Children’s & Education, including line management of YouTube Channel Managers. You will oversee the strategic planning, delivery and performance of YouTube content across channels; supporting creative development, use of audience insights and effective collaboration with internal teams. You’ll also be responsible for signing off content and ensuring all output meets editorial, legal and compliance standards.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Working with the Head of YouTube Content and Programming Strategy, lead the strategic and operational management for a portfolio of YouTube channels with accountability for channel planning, scheduling, performance optimisation and audience growth at scale.
- Develop and oversee rolling channel schedules that balance long‑term editorial planning with short‑term flexibility in response to performance and platform trends.
- Monitor channel performance against KPIs, using analytics to inform editorial priorities, optimisation strategies and decision‑making.
- Editorial responsibility for the portfolio, including signing off content to ensure it meets creative, compliance and brand standards. Provide strategic and performance led editorial feedback on content, edits and packaging, including thumbnails, titles and video structures. Ensure content is optimised for discoverability, engagement and growth. Manage and develop direct reports, supporting performance, progression and delivery across channel outputs.
- Work cross‑functionally with content, production and marketing teams to ensure aligned planning, efficient workflows and effective launches.
- Champion best practice in YouTube content creation for youth audiences, maintaining cultural relevance and audience trust.
- Act as a subject matter expert on YouTube – Stay up to date with platform changes and industry trends, adapting strategy to maximise performance and growth.
Your Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience scaling YouTube channels or channel portfolios at pace, ideally across multiple brands.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing teams through direct line management.
- Solid editorial experience, including signing off content and ensuring compliance with editorial and platform standards.
- Strong experience building and maintaining rolling content schedules aligned to editorial goals, audience growth targets and platform strategy.
- In‑depth understanding of YouTube platform, including YouTube Kids, performance optimisation, algorithms, thumbnails and audience growth mechanics.
Desirable
- Advanced knowledge of YouTube analytics and performance metrics, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategy.
- Strong understanding of YouTube content aimed at youth audiences and contemporary digital culture.
- Working knowledge of editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, enabling effective review, feedback and sign‑off.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams across content, production and marketing.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver at pace in a fast‑moving digital environment.
