Job summary

We are seeking a Clinical Trials Assistant to join the Research and Innovation at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be integral for driving research across different specialties. The postholder will need to be flexible and adaptable to support the set up and coordination within any research specialty at MFT, based upon service need. It is essential that the post-holder is willing to travel to all Trust sites

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated individual to provide administrative support for clinical trials in the Pooled Resource Team. Responsibilities include setting up studies, coordinating approvals (ethics, R&D, MHRA), managing data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing study finances with the R&I finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, IT, and administrative skills, attention to detail, and a team-oriented mindset. Understanding clinical trials, research governance, and medical terminology is beneficial. You will support the research team in various study activities, contributing proactively and efficiently. The Trust offers comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and expects flexibility, including travel between sites as needed.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • GCSE/O level Maths and English or equivalent
  • Educated to at least NVQ 3 or equivalent

Desirable

  • Administrative qualifications
  • ECDL

Knowlegde and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and other packages.
  • Experience of office administration.

Desirable

  • Previous work in NHS

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Demonstrable IT skills, including ability to maintain spreadsheets and databases efficiently and effectively.
  • Good organisational abilities, with a methodical approach and the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and experience of interdisciplinary working.
  • Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Professional and courteous manner.

Desirable

  • Good working knowledge of servicing meetings.
